Welcome back, Scotties! I had the opportunity to travel in eastern Europe this summer and since my ancestry can be traced back to Russia, I found it very interesting to think about how my relatives did everyday things.
While touring around St. Petersburg, Russia, I thought about how the apartment buildings looked very much like the apartment building where I grew up in Brooklyn. Many of the different foods we ate, were foods that my grandmother cooked when I was a little girl. The people I met asked me many questions about what life is like in America. I thought that we were very much alike . . . just really far away from each other.
It's like that at Highlands, too. Although we all have very different backgrounds, we have a lot of things in common. Wherever you come from, you learn to read, play games, eat lunch, and go to school. So, this year, I hope we all appreciate each other's differences, and embrace what makes us alike. Look at the picture above. Does it look familiar? Have a great year, Scotties!
