It's Bullying Awareness Week in Fort Bend ISD and all over America. While we should be aware of bullying and its effects on people all year, this is a good time for us to reflect and think about what it really means to be bullied. I've heard many adults say they were bullied as children and I can even remember times when I felt like I was bullied in school. I think that the difference between between being bullied when I was a child and bullying now is that there are more ways for people to be mean to each other. There was no internet access on the computer when I was a child. If someone wanted to bully another child, they had to do it face to face. There's a big difference between seeing how someone feels when they're bullied and just looking at the words on a computer screen.
So, here's the bullying awareness challenge for today. How will you be safe from bullying on the internet? How will you act if a friend tells you that they've been bullied online? And, most importantly, what do you need to remember about being safe on the internet?
Remember, we are working towards bully-free schools in Fort Bend ISD. Be ready to do your part. I am looking for responses to my post. I will draw several winning posts and announce them on the Scottie News. Post your response and look for the winners next week! Have a great and bully-free day.
