How many times have you been asked the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?". Too many times, you might be thinking, and that's logical considering the fact that all the students at Highlands are 12 and younger. It's a pretty big question and should be considered carefully. The things that interest you when you're a child may not be the things that interest you tomorrow, next week or next year. When we think about our future careers, the important thing to reflect upon is passion! What is passion?
Career Coach Kathy Caprino wrote an interesting blog that talks about passion as it applies to career happiness. She identified many questions to ask ourselves, but these two set themselves apart in importance.
1. What would you try if you knew you couldn't fail?
2. What did you adore doing, but may have let slip through your fingertips?
These questions require some deep thinking and the answers can be surprising. If I thought I couldn't fail, I might have gone to Hollywood when I graduated from college to try and become a movie or tv writer! Of course, I would have missed out on a great career working with children, but writing was (and still is a passion for me). As some of you may know, I have coauthored several children's picture books, so that passion lives on as something I still consider an important part of me.
